Ratchet 2015
So every year I do a Ratchet and Clank picture, to track how I'm getting on and design some stuff for the crazy and wonderful universe that Insomniac have built.
I wanted to make sure Clank made it in this year, as he's usually absent!
Also, I wanted to work up the background so I could use it for my Environmental Modelling class as a texturing demo.
Anyway, a lot of fun!
Enjoy!

A bit more character
So we're coming to the end of production on Nelly and Nora, and it's been fun. And challenging. Also, an awful lot like colouring comics, which I wouldn't have said going in. Emma (Hogan, art director)'s real passion lies in shape and pattern, whilst I'm a pure colour man all the way! This really allowed us to play off each other's strengths- meaning I got to do a lot of colour keying for each episode, with every conceivable weather type! We have some wild west influenced palettes, some very Japan-inspired palettes as well as exploring the almost contradictory nature of Irish weather!
With all those environments during the day, it seems like I had an itch to scratch with characters in the evenings- here's some I made for fun. Of course, we have a quick annual Ratchet and Clank fan piece :D
Enjoy!

RATCHET 2013
So, every year I do a Ratchet and Clank pic, and with Into the Nexus fresh off the presses and big spacewalky adventures in the trailer I couldn't resist giving this a shot. FUN.
Last year's offering can be found here (and there's links to all the older ones from there, if you'd like an embarrassing look at my fanarts through the years ;)

Weekly Roundup
Wow, that week really flew in!
In sort of a flipside to the earlier one, I'm really not all that happy with how this turned out. Anthro characters can either be cute or creepy, and I hadn't tried to draw a Chow before. In the heel of the hunt, it ended up on the creepy side of the fence. Boo. Learn and move on. I was playing with a new technique too, and SOME of it worked.
It's November, which means it's time to start work on my Ratchet pic for this year. For those of you that don't know, I have done a Ratchet and Clank fanart every year since 2004, and use it as a metric for whether or not I've improved. So, every year I realllllly try and push the boat out, and with Into the Nexus coming out I get to play around in SPACE. Hopefully next year I'll be on a buzz from the movie.
I might hold off on colouring this one until next week's stream.
This one took up a _lot_ of my time, but I wanted to bring out some of the stuff I'd learned over the past months and put it into a personal painting and finish it to a level where I was happy with it.

The time I'd burned on that chow picture was bothering me, so I did one or two spitpaints to bring the speed back up. Warden and War Ghost. Warden was fun because I wanted to play on expressions more than anything else, and am happy with the result.

If not, I'll find something else fun for ye to watch. If you want to make any suggestions for stuff you'd like to see, hit me up here or on twitter @ciaranlucas

Ratchet 2012
Here's where I'm stopping at on this Ratchet pic. Would love to pour a few more hours into this, but I'm capping it at 7hrs so as to match the time spent on the first year's one which can be found over here
Oh crumbs, it seems I had another hour...oh well, I've work to get back to.
I find the old one completely hilarious by the way, mostly because I remember how *proud* I was of that early effort. Anyway, Ratchet and Clank is brought to you by the fine folks at Insomniac.

Ratchet in the Works.
I've a funny feeling this is gonna be one of those pictures I'm gonna look at in the morning and see a million things wrong with, but here's this for now. My annual Ratchet and Clank fanart.
These are the games that really got me into gaming, and I still mightily enjoy bludgeoning hundreds of aliens and robots with my trusty Omniwrench.
This is like the 8th year I've done this, and I'm trying to outdo myself from the previous year.
Links to the older ones can be found at http://charco.deviantart.com/art/Ratchet-2011-259230893 which I find hilariously awful. Sort of. The...2008 one I'm still kinda fond of. But onwards and upwards.
Hope y'all like it. Ratchet's property of Insomniac Games, I just play the things they make.
